Today we open registration for the 2026 Future Proof Festival. It will be our fifth anniversary.
When I say that out loud, it feels surreal.
Five years ago, Future Proof was an idea and a bet.
After traveling around the country during the height of COVID-19, I found myself standing on a hotel balcony, defeated, staring into an empty parking lot along the coast of Huntington Beach. It was the final stop on a 10-day West Coast tour to find the right “venue” for a new category of business events I had in my head but couldn’t fully explain yet.
I had left a comfortable, well-paying job just months earlier to pursue it. I had pitched investors. I had convinced a few talented people to leave their jobs and come along for the ride. My wife and I had just gotten married. She had left her job to pursue her own entrepreneurial path. Like many families at the time, we were also attempting to homeschool our four-year-old son while schools were shut down.
I couldn’t come home without a venue. I owed it to my team, our investors, and especially my wife, who was holding everything together at home.
As I stood there looking at the Pacific Ocean, my eyes shifted back toward that empty lot. And I realized I had been looking at the venue the entire time.
We had conviction, but we didn’t have proof. We chose to build Future Proof in that lot because we believed the wealth management industry deserved something different. Not another ballroom. Not another endless hallway of pipe-and-drape booths. Something open. Energetic. Designed for real conversations.
A lot of people thought it wouldn’t work.
Some of our largest sponsors today laughed me off those early calls when I described a “wealth management festival.” I don’t blame them. At the time, I probably sounded crazy. Convicted, but still crazy.
Outdoor events are hard. The logistics are harder. The weather is unpredictable. And the industry wasn’t asking for a business-focused festival.
But it worked.
Since then, more than 15,000 leaders have joined us at Future Proof events. We’ve hosted over 100,000 one-to-one meetings. We’ve watched firms launch and grow, partnerships form, and careers change because two people met near the ocean.
We even had two attendees get engaged during the closing concert one year. That still blows my mind.
What We Actually Built
Looking back, I don’t think we just built a successful event. We helped redefine how this industry comes together.
Future Proof became a place where the modern wealth industry works on the future in real time. They don’t come just to listen, but to meet. To debate. To challenge assumptions. To do business.
We gave stages to new voices, not just the usual speaker circuit. We created an atmosphere that made networking feel natural and human again. We introduced technology that changed how sponsors and attendees think about event ROI.
Over time, I’ve watched elements of our event model show up elsewhere. That’s how you know you’re onto something. Five years in, the bar is higher. Including for us.
Why 2026 Matters
The industry is changing faster than at any point in my career. The next five years will almost certainly look nothing like the last five.
That’s why 2026 matters. It’s both a milestone year for Future Proof and a pivot point year for our industry.
We’re using our fifth anniversary to re-raise the bar and make sure that Future Proof Festival reflects where the industry is going, not where it’s been.
What You’ll See in 2026
We’re building the most ambitious version of Future Proof Festival yet.
We’ve been working closely with the City of Huntington Beach on an enhanced event layout designed to improve flow, meeting space, and the overall attendee experience. We’re introducing dozens of new experiences and new content formats built for active participation.
On stage, you’ll see more founders and operators. More people building in real time. You’ll hear less commentary and instead open discussions about real experiences.
In the coming weeks, we’ll share more about the 2026 content themes, the preliminary agenda, and an early look at the new site layout. It’s going to be incredible.
A Personal Thank You
Future Proof has changed my life. Not because of growth or scale, but because of the people who believed early.
There were advisors, sponsors, and influential media personalities who committed before it was obvious. Team members who worked through heat, sun, and long nights to make year one happen. Partners who trusted us when the format was unproven.
You all played a key role in building Future Proof.
Every year I walk the site before doors open. The stages are quiet. The structures are up. The ocean is steady in the background. And I think about the responsibility we have to make it better than the year before.
Five years in, we’re not interested in protecting what we’ve built. We’re focused on building what comes next.
Registration for the 2026 Future Proof Festival is now open.
If you’ve been part of this journey, I hope you’ll join us again. If you’ve been watching from the sidelines, this might be the year to step in.
The next five years start now.
Thank you,
Matt Middleton
